Emergency Department
Contact Number: 601-443-2680
Natchez Regional Medical Center Emergency Department is a level IV Trauma Center and takes pride in providing efficient care to the community at large. The Emergency Department Physicians and Nurses offer care to all age groups across the lifespan. The Emergency Department staff is licensed with regard to the entire spectrum of health care problems that people may present.

The Emergency Department at Natchez Regional Medical Center treats all emergencies as quickly as possible to stabilize patients in order to evaluate them for admission to the hospital, transfer to a higher level of care or discharge for self care at home when appropriate. All patients that present to the Emergency Department are provided an Emergency Physician medical Screening Examination. Our goal is to treat immediate life or limb threatening conditions emergently and to prevent potentially life threatening conditions before they become life threatening and to provide an appropriate level of care to all patients regardless of level of illness, age, sex, race or ability to pay for services.

We have 24-hour physician coverage exclusively devoted to the care of the Emergency department patients. The physicians and nurses who staff the Emergency Department are trained to provide emergency care for people with general illnesses, traumatic injuries, cardiovascular and respiratory emergencies (just to mention a few). The physicians and nurses are certified in advanced life support for adults and children as well as care of the trauma patient.

Patients are welcome to "walk-in" at any time to request treatment for any illness or injury they may have. We also receive patients from home, nursing homes, scene of accidents via local Ambulance Companies. We have the only Emergency Department with a CHEST PAIN EMERGENCY CENTER in our area.

Because emergency departments do not provide scheduled appointments for health-care, the Triage process is utilized to ensure the most acutely ill or injured patients upon entrance to the Emergency Department and prioritizing illness/injury based on the following criteria:

1. IMMEDIATE - Life or limb threatening conditions
2. URGENT - Potentially life threatening conditions
3. SEMI-URGENT - Potentially serious, but not life-threatening
4. NON-URGENT - Mild or chronic conditions, not life threatening

Patients can expect to be examined by a Nurse upon entering the Emergency Department, to have vital signs (Heart rate, Blood pressure, Respiratory rate, and Temperature) taken. Questions will be asked by the Nurse concerning the present illness or injury such as time of onset, severity of symptoms, past medical history, present medications, etc. Patients may be brought immediately to one of the 10 treatment rooms or asked to wait in the waiting room until a room is available. Emergency Department Admission information will be collected by the admission clerk. Once in a treatment room, the Physician will provide a complete medical screening examination and obtain history of the present illness or injury, verify past medical history and medication use. Based on the Physician's examination tests (blood tests, urine samples, x-ray, etc.) will be ordered if needed and treatment will begin. Upon completion of the treatment plan, patients who are able to be discharged home will receive information to assist them in caring for their illness or injury at home. This information will be in written form or specialist and to return to the Emergency Department for re-evaluation as desired, especially if symptoms worsen.

THINGS PATIENTS SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THEIR VISIT:

1. BRING ALL MEDICATIONS or A WRITTEN LIST OF MEDICATIONS
2. KNOW ALLERGIES TO MEDICATIONS, FOODS, OTHER SUBSTANCES
